Why and How You Should Not Eat Too Much Salt

You need oxygen to survive, but, ironically, oxygen is also your undoing. As you breathe in oxygen, you also give out carbon dioxide, which is toxic to your health. Nature has designed this unique built-in mechanism to guarantee your mortality. You get life-giving oxygen, but you also receive life-damaging byproducts in the form of free radicals. You are just like a log of wood burning oxygen for fuel. Fortunately, your body is also equipped with antioxidants that not only prevent free radical formation but also defuse the free radicals already formed. So, there is always a constant combat between antioxidants and free radicals within your body.

No matter what, free radicals may have damaged your cell walls. When cell walls are damaged, they become more difficult to metabolize the sodium intake, leading to more sodium leaks and hence further sodium metabolic impairment. Blood vessels damaged by excessive sodium leaks may result in swelling and edema. In this way, your arteries may become clogged and your blood pressure elevates.

Cellular damage to the DNA by free radicals is a major contributing factor not only to heart disease but also to many human cancers, as well as damage to the neurons in the brain. Therefore, reducing salt in your daily diet is important.

To prevent further free radical damage to your cells and blood vessels, reduce salt intake. You have heard too often: Cut back on salt! But it is easier said than done, because nearly all processed foods contain some, if not excessive, amount of sodium chloride. Even Jell-O pudding may contain as much as 400 mg of sodium chloride. So there is salt in almost any supermarket food item

(1) Always read food labels before any food purchase. Unless it says “no salt added,” there is always a certain amount of sodium chloride.

(2) Reduce voluntary salting. Never reach out for a saltshaker in a restaurant.

(3) Lay off all high-salt condiments, such as soy sauce, steak sauces, gravies, and relishes

(4) Restrict consumption of salt-laden foods, such as canned soups, potato chips, and pretzels, among other junk food items.

(5) Eat whole foods instead of their processed counterparts. Eat living and raw foods instead of processed foods, which are always loaded with salt.

Reducing salt intake is an important component of a healthy longevity diet. Eating right is the art of living well.

Daily Wisdom in Weight Management

Weight loss is more than just about focusing on what to eat and what not to eat. Oprah Winfrey hit the nail on the head when she said: "My greatest failure was in believing that weight issue was just about weight."

There are many things you can do everyday to help you with your weight loss. This daily wisdom in weight loss may not have anything to do with what to eat or what not to eat.

1. Brush your teeth as often as possible. Always carry a travel-size toothbrush with mint-flavor toothpaste. Brushing teeth more often not only saves you dental cost but also changes the flavor in your mouth; yes, this may also change your food craving.

2. Add spices, instead of sugar, to your food, even desserts. For example, eating curry or hot chili pepper causes you to drink more water, and thus giving you a feeling of satiety, so you may eat less.

3. Resist the temptation of trying different flavors or versions of the same type of food. If you like chips, just stick to one flavor. Trying one flavor after another only makes you want to eat more and thus gain more.

4. Always prepare your meals ahead of time, such as preparing in advance 2-3 meals instead of just one. The rationale is that you may avoid last-minute rush for fast food or a TV dinner.

5. When you do your supermarket shopping, always get a list of what you need to buy. Do not be distracted by unhealthy food items on checkout lanes. Never shop when you are hungry.

6. Body detox is the foundation of weight loss. Ultimate weight loss occurs only after body cleansing. Mindful meditation is the most natural detox of the body and the mind. Mindful meditation is both breathing meditation and relaxation meditation for weight-loss detox.

Here is how you begin your mindful meditation:
:

  • Set aside 10 minutes or so.
  • Sit comfortably with both feet on the floor.
  • Good posture brings stability, which is right mindfulness for mindful meditation. Align your spine with your head and neck to allow your breaths to flow freely. Rest your hands on your lap or on your knees.
  • Start with 3 deep, cleansing breaths. Breathing meditation requires you to breathe naturally. Be mindful of areas in your body that have tension, such as your neck, shoulders, or lower back. Send your breaths to these areas. This is relaxation meditation.
  • If your mind wanders, notice your breath. If you are aware of any sound around you, notice it, but without consciously hearing it. If you are aware of the temperature in the room, again notice it. Whenever you become less aware of your sensations, return to your breaths. Notice how you inhale and exhale, or hold your breath.
Mindful meditation is breathing and relaxation meditation for body detox. Mindfulness is the most natural weight loss detox.

7. Body awareness is your relationship with your body. Your body awareness is important to weight loss.

Many dieters are concerned with what they see on the bathroom scale, or with the body shape they see reflected on the mirror.

Body awareness helps you optimize your breathing, which facilitates the removal of toxins to lose weight.

Body awareness is mindfulness of how eating makes you feel: be aware of the taste of the food, such as how it feels in your mouth; be aware of how you feel as you eat the food, especially after have eaten it.

You can further enhance your body awareness by the following:
:

  • Lie on your back on the floor, wearing no clothes.
  • Be aware of your body, how it feels against the floor, especially your spine.
  • Start focusing on your feet—how do your toes feel?
  • Then, slowly shift your focus up your body—from your legs to the upper parts of your body until you come to your head.
Practicing body awareness on a daily basis will fine tune your body and awaken an internal awareness that will help you in your food choices. Remember, you should eat what you want to eat, and let your body tell you what you want to eat. There are times you want to eat certain food (what you call "forbidden" food), but you eventually decide against it, or at least you end up eating much less than you originally intended to—this is your body awareness working for you.

Why Wear Suspenders

Gentlemen, if you wish to be healthy, wear suspenders, and not belts for your pants!

Why?

Health has a lot to do with your breathing, which has a lot to do with your posture, which has a lot to do with your spine. Optimum breathing provides oxygen to your lungs and henceforth to the rest of your body. Breathing, however, can be compromised or even disrupted by poor posture, which will result in an unstraight or crooked spine.

How does wearing suspenders help?

Irrespective whether you have a flat or bulging tummy, you tend to push your tummy forward when you are wearing a belt for your pants--this disfigures your posture. A correct posture is to tuck in your tummy, slightly squeeze your buttocks and push them forward in order to align your spine. If you do this while wearing a belt, your pants tend to drop; psychologically and unconsciously, there is a tendency to push the tummy forward.

Wearing suspenders, on the other hand, enables you to tuck in your tummy. At first, you may find it straining to do just that due to weak abdominal muscles; however, through greater awareness and more practice, you will be able to overcome it.

Remember, good posture means in any standing position, you body posture should be as follows:
  • Your head is directly above your shoulders.
  • Your ear, shoulder, and hip are in a straight line from a side view.
  • Your upper back is straight, not slouched.
  • Your shoulders, relaxed and straight, are flat against your back.
  • Your pelvis is in a neutral position.
  • Your knees are unlocked.

Wearing suspenders is not only a statement of fashion but also an expression of posture health.

Daily Drinks to Live Longer

Detox Shake

In this day and age, you are daily ingesting a great deal of toxins into your body through the food you eat. In addition, if you regularly take prescribed medications from your doctor or over-the-counter drugs, you have loaded toxic chemicals into your body. Always look for alternatives to dangerous drugs.

To detoxify, the best way is to fast on a regular basis. But you may like the idea. Another alternative is to take a detox shake.

Put 3 tablespoons of whole flax seed, juice of 1 whole lemon, and 1 tablespoon of ground milk thistle into 1 cup of water, and drink it on an empty stomach. Get your detox shake 2-3 times a week for internal cleansing.

Eye Smoothie

Are you tired of wearing glasses or contacts? Do you want the vision of an eagle's?

Drink this eye smoothie every morning on an empty stomach, and do not eat at least for an hour after the smoothie.

The eye smoothie is simple to make: an apple, a small potato, a carrot, a medium tomato; put all ingredients in a blender, and drink immediately.

You can drink this eye smoothie in place of your breakfast. It not only gives you nutrients but also improves your vision.

If you have just started wearing reading glasses, you can dispense them within a few months. If you have been wearing them for a while, you may need some good eye exercises. Go to:
Vision Self-Healing Self-Help.
